What affects the scope
Every tile job is different, and the independent installer who does the work sets their own price. These are the things they will usually need to know before they can estimate:
- The size of the shower and how much of it is tile rather than glass
- Whether the old shower has to come out first, and what is found behind it
- The tile itself: large format, mosaic, and natural stone are not the same job
- Whether the pan is built on site or set as a preformed base
- Niches, benches, and curbless entries, each of which changes the waterproofing detail
- Whether a plumber has to move a drain or valve before tile work can start
Worth asking any installer directly: are you licensed and insured for this work, what waterproofing system do you use, what is your estimate and what does it include, when could you start, and what happens if something is not right afterwards? How is a tile shower waterproofed?
Behind the tile, not by it. Tile and grout are not waterproof on their own, so a shower needs a sealed system underneath: a sloped pan, sealed corners and seams, and a membrane or waterproof board over the framing. Ask any installer you talk to which system they use and how they treat the corners and the niche, because that is where showers leak.
How much does a tile shower cost in Taylorsville?
